Seminar: Challenges and Opportunities for Women in Neuroscience from Low- and Mid-Income Nations
You are invited to participate in this meeting, which is being held in conjunction with International Women’s Day and will be part of our collective effort to celebrate women in global neuroscience and to acknowledge the realities of conducting research in resource limited settings. NIH co-sponsors for this effort are NIEHS, FIC, NIDA, NINDS, and NIDCD. We are pleased that this effort is also being held in partnership with the International Brain Research Organization’s Committee on Women in World Neuroscience which is working between 2008 and 2009 to hear from women around the world on challenges, best practices and opportunities for women in the neurosciences.
You are invited to a session to be held on Monday, March 9, between 2 pm and 4 pm at the Lawton Chiles International “Stone” House (Building 16) on the main NIH campus. A networking reception with refreshments will be held between 4 pm and 5 pm. We are grateful to the United Nations Foundation, the Society for Women’s Health Research and the Foundation for NIH for support of the reception.
We expect a meeting of fifty individuals to include women and men originally from low- and mid-income nations with insights on challenges facing women in neuroscience in their home countries. Some will be post-doctoral fellows who are considering returning home, other post-doctoral fellows who are not considering a return home, and more senior scientists who have chosen to remain in the United States. Several NIH leaders and program managers will attend also to listen, learn and to share perspectives from their own vantage points. This promises to be an informative and energizing forum, and we hope that you will be able to participate actively in it.
Space is a limiting factor at the Stone House so please indicate as soon as possible whether you will be able to join. If we exceed our limits, we may need to think about other arrangements. For now, please RSVP to Dr. Emmeline Edwards at ee48r@nih.gov no later than February 23.
