Don't miss this exciting event open to all graduate students doing dissertation research at NIH! Each year, PhD students get together for 2 days of science, professional/career development, food and fun. All lodging and meals are paid for by the GPP. Bus transportation from the Bethesda campus will be provided if you would like to ride to the retreat with a group of students. The theme for this year will be "Leadership in Life and in the Lab" and we will have exciting sessions led by a local expert in the area of leadership, Hile Rutledge, from Otto Kroeger Associates.
The bulk of our education and training is directed toward developing technical expertise and competencies in our chosen field. However, how we approach work, manage our interpersonal relationships, and interact within teams can dramatically influence our career progression and impact our happiness. At the retreat we will explore elements of leadership and relationship management, build self-awareness regarding our work and leadership styles, and discuss ways to increase our effectiveness as a leader at work and in the broader community. Our discussions will draw on information from the Myers Briggs Type Indicator and from a body of research known as Emotional Intelligence.
Last year's retreat was a huge success and we hope you will plan to attend this year's event.
The link for registration is: http://tinyurl.com/OITE-2009-07-16. You may register for the retreat only if you are able to participate in the full two-day agenda. In order to attend, you need to register for the retreat no later than Monday, June 8th at 5:00 pm
This year we are saving your poster presentations for the GPP Student Research Symposium in the fall and will only have student talks at the retreat. This means we are increasing the number of student talks at the retreat to 16! Please consider presenting your research in a 20 minute talk at the retreat. Abstracts are due by Monday, June 12th in order to be considered for a talk.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Hope to see you at the Retreat,
Betsey
