Are you a graduate student at NIH that would like to gain some teaching experience?
Every Fall the NIH Graduate Student Council organizes and teaches a course for post-bacs through FAES called, "Molecular Approaches to Studying Disease." Each lecture is taught by 1(or sometimes 2) graduate students and focuses on various techniques and their application to studying disease (please see the course description included below).
We are currently recruiting graduate students to give lectures during Fall 2009. The following topics are available (You may also suggest a topic of your choice):
- In vivo/In vitro Models
- Enzymes, Cell Membrane Receptors, and Applications
- Microscopy Applications
If you are interested in teaching a lecture please reply to this email.
Course Description: BIOL 262: Molecular Approaches to Studying Disease
Date/Time: Tuesdays from 5:30-7:40pm
This lecture discussion based course is designed to help students gain an appreciation of techniques including molecular, cellular, biochemical, transgenic animal models, and imaging techniques. Students will learn a historical perspective of technique development, discuss applications and explore recent advances using these specific approaches. Disease that will be addressed include both monogenic and polygenic diseases of complex origin.
Prerequisites: Undergraduate Biology and Chemistry
Sincerely,
The 2009 GSC Teaching Committee
