Registration Directions for Individual Partnership Students

Please read the following directions before submitting the registration form for the Individual Partnership.  You should only submit this registration form once the following items have been completed:

  • Obtain permission from your university department to perform dissertation research at NIH
  • Contact an NIH investigator.  Discuss working in his/her laboratory as a graduate student.  In order to register with the GPP, the NIH investigator must have offered you a graduate student position in his / her laboratory.
  • Identify required degree program elements as defined by your university department chairperson

Eligibility – Students creating an Individual Partnership may be United States of America citizens, United States of America permanent residents, or international citizens currently enrolled in a PhD program.

Login Page – New students must select “Register for Individual Partnership” to complete the registration form.  Students with approved account may use the “Returning Applicants” to access their registration record.  The registration system is designed to automatically logout after 15-minutes of inactivity.

Registration WebPage – Complete the registration form by entering the request data from Step-One through Step-Seven, using the ‘Save & Continue’ button () to advance to the next step.

Contact Information – The information requested in this section is used to establish methods for contacting you.  Please make sure all information submitted is correct, especially email and phone numbers.

Personal Information – Registrants are asked to provide details about their birthday, citizenship, and language expertise.

Academic Profile – This section is broken down into two sections: Educational History and Standardized Examinations (GRE, MCAT, TOEFL).

Educational History – Submit information about each university / college attended during undergraduate and graduate school, even if you did not obtain a degree from that institution.  Details about your PhD program should be entered into fields designated as Graduate University.  All other educational information should be listed in chronological order with the most recent enrollment first. You will be able to add as many records as needed to accurately represent your educational history.

Standardized Examination Scores – If you have GRE, MCAT, or TOEFL examination scores, please include this information so we can generate statistics reports on large populations.  If you do not have these scores it is not necessary to take these examinations unless the NIH investigator for dissertation research requests such scores.

NIH Investigator – This section is designed to identify the NIH investigator for dissertation research.  We have provided fields for a primary advisor and secondary advisor (if needed).  If you do not find the name of the investigator in the drop-down menu you are able to enter his/her name in the open text field provided.  Note: The GPP will contact each investigator identified to confirm their willingness to host you in their laboratory.

NIH Information – These fields are used to collect information of key NIH personnel in charge of your appointment paperwork, assuming the NIH investigator listed has extended an offer of admission into his/her laboratory.  We also ask for an estimate on the time you anticipate to stay at the NIH performing dissertation research; report training duration in either months or years.

Optional Statistics - Questions asked in this section are accessed by the GPP only and used only for statistical purposes on large populations.

Account – You will need to create a password to access your registration.  We strongly encourage you to create a password that contains a minimum of eight (8) characters and has a combination of the following: capital letters, lower case letters, numeric characters, or special characters.

Revisiting Registration Form – You are able to review and modify your registration form by entering your login name (email account) and password set in the original submission in the “Returning Applicants” area of the login page after the GPP staff has approved your account.

There are four options in the Student Interface of the GPP application system:
